Inside the book
Contents
A comprehensive, classroom-ready study of Mexican philosophy, from the pre-Conquest thought of the Nahua and Maya through colonial debates and the age of independence, and from liberalism and Positivism to the philosophical self-interpretation of the twentieth century and the liberation and decolonial thought of today. The book presents Mexican philosophy as a tradition in its own right and gathers its central questions into one coherent course of study: what is real and what is true, how we ought to act and by what right law and authority command, who we are as a people, and what freedom means for human beings.
Instructors no longer have to build a course from readings scattered across multiple fields and sources. The volume brings that material together, weaving primary texts into sustained philosophical analysis. Argument-based questions, scaffolded assignments, chapter reviews, and further reading make it ready for direct classroom use. It can anchor a full course in Mexican or Latin American philosophy or provide substantial units for philosophy and political thought courses, as well as for Indigenous, Chicano and Chicana, and Latin American studies.
